Getting Started
Valhelsia: Enhanced Vanilla is a Minecraft 1.18 Fabric Modpack that has a skill-based, RPG-like level progression before you can do things like mining, smelting, enchanting, using different tools and armor.
The RPG skills are added by the LevelZ mod. Read about that in my LevelZ mod guide.
It’s quite different, and can even be frustrating for someone coming in unaware. But it’s fun! It stretches out the early game and reminds me of the first time playing minecraft.
I’ve started some videos, embedded below on how to get started and here are some quick tips:
- Get yourself wooden tools as quickly as you can. You only have three hearts, and you want to get going as quickly as possible with an axe for defense and to kill some friendly mobs for food and XP.
- Find sheep and make a bed so you don’t have to survive through the first night.
- Open the skills menu and get familar with that. Hit ‘k’ to open the skills menu.
- Run around a bit before you assign your first points to get a lay of the land. If you find a village, you’re going to want to trade. If not, you may want to go faster into mining so you can quickly get some cobblestone and coal.
- Assign your first 3 skill points. You have three skill points to assign, and you’ll want to spend them wisely. The 4th point is 50 experience points away! Here are some suggestions:
- Assign one point to farming so you can use the furnace to cook some food. You’ll need to use logs a you cannot mine coal yet!
- If you found a village, assign a point to trading so you can make a fletcher and sell him sticks.
- Farming and Mining are likely going to be your first skills to progress in.
- Get your first XP. Here are the best very early ways to get XP:
- Kill salmon or cod with an axe. They’re easy to find, safe from most mobs, and you can eat them raw for food. Don’t go too deep though, by the time you hear yourself drowning, it’s probably too late!
- Find a village and trade sticks to fletchers and clay to masons.
- Kill other friendly mobs
- If you’re good at fighting, stay up at night and kill hostile mobs. Just watch out for skeletons. You’re one, maybe two shots to a skeleton.
- Level up! Once you get enough XP, you will get more points to apply to skills. Get mining up to be able to use stone tools and to mine coal and iron so you can get some armor. Though you’ll need to level up Defense to wear it! Level up Farming so you can use stone axe, breed animals (for more XP), and use other items.
- Have fun! The skills progression makes you experience all the early minecraft stuff rather than rushing to the end of the game. Enjoy!
Bonus: Check out the first videos below for guides on getting started and progressing all the way to the end game!

Hey, Jangro! Just wondering, because I’ve only seen one forum post with 0 replies, but how in Notch’s name do you make Rose Gold items? The recipe’s supposed to use the Smithing Table, but it acts like there’s no recipe at all.
They’re mentioned in the leveling for the items themselves, but the only items mentioned in the Smithing tree (where stuff like this apparently goes) are Netherite at 20th.
Thanks a ton!
Hey Guy.
Rose gold items are disabled in Valhelsia: Enhanced Vanilla because for balancing reasons in the pack. I think they were unable to lock it with the skill system due to an incompatibility, and until that’s fixed, they’ve have removed the recipe because you can get it too early.
Do you know if there is any way to re-enable the rose gold tools?

They’re removed using KubeJS. There are a few files you need to edit to put them back, the remove.js and the rei_blacklist.js, which you can see here:

Hey Jangro, do you know an easy way to get sheldonite/platinum? (other than scrap boxes)
Sorry! I missed this comment. Sheldonite is pretty easy to find in vanilla end biomes. Just run around and look for the ore on the surface. You can mine too, of course.
Hello! I’d love to play your modpack but my PC struggles to run it with the shaders active. Is it possible to turn them off to improve performance?
Hello. Yes, in the video settings, you can change to lower quality shaders, or disable them entirely.
Hey, how can i extract fluids of the fluid replicator, so i can connect it with the industrial grinder?
The best way to move fluids around is with AE2 importers and exporters. There are no fluid pipes in the modpack.
If you’re not into AE2, you can also put liquid into empty cells and move them around as items.
Hi, I need some help,
I feel as if I am progressing a lot slower than others and I’m trying hard so what’s the fastest way to get exp and what is the best thing to spend my skill points on
is there a way to make multiplayer work?
Do you mean open to LAN? Generally that’s problematic with modded Minecraft. Some mods just aren’t compatible.
Best bet is to start up a separate server locally or get a server from a hosting provider.
